Brazil, Indiana Community Info and Homes For Sale

Welcome to Brazil IndianaBrazil, Indiana is a small Midwest town an hour southwest of Indianapolis and is the county seat of Clay County, and part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Area. During the 1840′s, the country of Brazil frequently appeared in the news. The farm which later became the inner core of the city of Brazil, IN took the name Brazil, and a generation later that became the name for the city that expanded around the farm.

The country of Brazil, in 1956 gifted the city with a fountain replicating its own historic fountain to commemorate the town’s namesake. The gift is now a highlight of the town’s Forest Park.

Orville Redenbacher, the popcorn magnate and graduate of Purdue University, is one of Brazil, Indiana‘s famous previous residents, as is union leader Jimmy Hoffa. And Brazil is home to one of the best haunted places in Indiana to visit near Halloween, the ominous 100 Step Cemetery.
