CENTURY 21 Elite celebrates the extraordinary with The Relentless Campaign. In a community of exciting projects, progressive movements, and exponential growth, relentless leaders and community members are found at its core. The Relentless Campaign aims to celebrate those making waves in the Terre Haute Community by honoring individuals who truly give the word "relentless" it's meaning. This month, we are excited to announce our second honoree of The Relentless Campaign, who is an individual who truly gives 121%.
Our second honoree for The Relentless Campaign is none other than elementary school teacher, Coral Pickens! Coral has dedicated herself to educating youth within the Terre Haute community. When describing Coral, her nominator said, “When I was in college, I learned the phrase ‘soul work’ when describing teaching. You must have the soul work to make that lasting impact on the lives of so many children. It's obvious to anyone that knows Coral that she possesses the heart, dedication, and soul work it takes to work in our schools". Coral not only has compassion for her students but her fellow teachers and community.
For more than 20 years, Coral has served as a teacher at Sugar Grove Elementary. Her time there has not gone unnoticed, as she has found unique and creative ways to reach her students. One way she has reached her students is through the “Man Project”. The “Man Project” is an initiative that Coral started to bring mentorship into the lives of 2nd to 5th-grade boys that may not have a positive male role model. Through this mentorship, young boys can learn skills such as honesty, trustworthiness, and respect through a positive male mentor. The positive results of this mentorship program have shown up as staff at Sugar Grove have noticed behavior improvement in the classroom, at lunch, and on the playground. Additionally, Coral is very passionate about literature and instills this love within her students. Coral never fails to show up for after school activities, and truly gives 121% to Sugar Grove Elementary. Coral goes above and beyond to recognize the needs of her students and give back to them in more ways than just the classroom.
Coral is a loving aunt and sister; Coral is truly an exceptional woman. Her quiet contributions are changing the Terre Haute community for the better, one student at a time. We are excited to feature Coral as our March honoree of The Relentless Campaign.
